Grattan Institute half correct on skilled visas

The Grattan Institute has released its submission to the federal government’s migration review.

The submission makes sound recommendations regarding the skilled permanent migration program:

We should start by rethinking our objectives for skilled migration. Only one-in-four permanent visas issued over the past decade were granted to migrants on the basis of their skills. The remainder are issued via the family and humanitarian streams, reflecting the diverse objectives of our migration program, or to the families of skilled migrants.
