Transurban plays Aussie taxpayers for fools

Former ACTU secretary and Linfox Group director Bill Kelty has attacked the excessive returns enjoyed by tollroad operator Transurban, which he says are the result of government stupidity.

Kelty argues a new framework is needed for major infrastructure projects in Australia, with all projects to be first cleared by Infrastructure Australia, while they should only go to tender if there is bipartisan political support.

Transurban CEO Scott Charlton has made a number of observations regarding Kelty’s criticisms, including that governments set the terms and conditions of infrastructure projects, including tolling, rather than Transurban:
