Grattan Institute pimps broken ‘skilled’ visa system

The Grattan Institute has published a wrap up of the Jobs & Skills Summit’s outcomes on immigration, which applauds the 35,000 strong expansion of the permanent migrant intake and welcomes the decision to rapidly expand temporary visas:

The decision to commit $36 million to help work through the backlog of 900,000 outstanding visa applications is welcome – although it is likely even more resources will be needed to get the program back on track.

Under the heading of “sensible easy calls”, Grattan applauds the extension of work rights for international students and graduates:
