AFR admits ‘skilled’ visa system is a sham

The AFR view has tried to attack the ACTU’s commonsense proposal to require temporary skilled visa holders to be paid above average full-time earnings [my emphasis]:

[The ACTU] wants the salary threshold of temporary skilled visa workers to increase to $91,000…

The salary threshold has been frozen since 2013 at $53,900, so some indexation is warranted. But an increase to the level of average full-time earnings, as the ACTU demands, would bar the lion’s share of skilled migrants who currently work in Australia under the existing rules…
