Former deputy Chief Health Officer (CHO) Nick Coatsworth has penned an article in The AFR calling for an immediate end to work vaccine mandates, claiming they are no longer useful nor necessary.
Coatsworth argues that it is now accepted that vaccines do not reduce COVID-19 transmission, and the greater infectiousness of the Omicron variant effectively ended the workplace safety justification for mandates.
Likewise, Australia’s high primary vaccination rate has reduced the impact of COVID-19 on the healthcare system, so vaccine mandates are now of limited public health value:
