What should be included in the RBA review?

Treasurer Jim Chalmers has signaled that the new government will move quickly to review the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA).

The RBA is the only major central bank in the developed world not to have undergone an external or independent review this century, with the last review taking place in the early 1980s before inflation targeting was introduced and the financial market was liberalised.

The options being canvassed include a review headed by someone within Treasury, whose secretary already sits on the RBA board, a review by an external expert from overseas, or some hybrid model.
