“Tiny” Tim Wilson blunders into Morrison’s problem

Struggling member for Goldstein, “Tiny” Tim Wilson, is in the news again:

The campaign director for independent candidate Zoe Daniel, who is running hard to take the federal seat of Goldstein from Liberal MP Tim Wilson, has launched a Supreme Court case against a Melbourne council over its attempt to ban political signs in front yards.

Supporters of the high-profile former ABC journalist had put up signs in front yards around suburbs in Bayside Council’s areas, which include Black Rock, Brighton, Hampton and Sandringham.

But on Friday last week, Bayside backflipped on a ruling it had given Ms Daniel’s team in December that allowed signs to be put up in front yards across the municipality.

…While Mr Wilson said he was “quite happy to wait until the official election campaign” before he began to ask supporters to put up signs in their front yard, Ms Daniel said they must be allowed immediately.

…Neighbouring council Glen Eira has not taken any action against residents in its suburbs who have put up signs supporting Ms Daniel, or any other candidates.

Therein lies the problem for “Tiny” Tim. This is a transparent attempt to use the long arm of the state to bully his surging independent challenger and her supporter’s freedom of expression in complete contradiction with his long-held views on freedom of expression.

That’s exactly the kind of raging hypocrisy that has sunk “Psycho” Scott Morrison. Saying one thing in press releases while doing another – lying in other words – is precisely what has come to define the Morrison Government and the dubious character of its leader.

This contradiction has come to define “Tiny” Tim’s tenure as a parliamentarian:

  • He constantly attacks climate change science while claiming to be a “modern liberal”.
  • He failed to stand up against the persecution of gay and trans kids in the recent legislative push to legalise church bigotry while claiming to be a “modern liberal”.
  • He has spent his entire career inside LNP sheltered workshops or as a bureaucrat fastened to the taxpayer tit, even as he would deny everybody else that opportunity.

None of the above is “modern”, “liberal” nor “libertarian” which forces the denizens of Goldstein to question “Tiny” Tim Wilson’s ideals, motives and character.

Just as they are being forced to do with regard to “Psycho” Morrison.
