Suburbs fight back against forced CBD revival

While CBD businesses are crying foul about the loss of employees following COVID work from home (WFH) protocols, and state governments are spending millions to bribe workers to return to the CBD as well as forcing public servants to return, suburban business owners and local government mayors are fighting back, arguing that people should continue to have the flexibility of working remotely. They want the COVID recovery to be driven by the suburbs:

Mayors and chambers of commerce in other parts of Sydney, from both sides of the political fence, warn that the suburbs need to be a central part of any economic recovery plans, and not just the areas that were designated “local government areas of concern” during the Delta lockdown last year.

Ryde Mayor Jordan Lane said his state government colleagues had “their hearts in the right place” but he took a “contrary view”.
