Australian house price surge delivers fake wealth boom

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) yesterday released dwelling values data for the December quarter, which recorded the strongest calendar year growth in the series’ history.

At the national capital city level, dwelling values surged by 23.7% in 2021, with six of eight markets rising by more than 20%:
