The Australian Aged Care Collaboration (AACC) has warned that the federal government’s proposed $800 retention bonus for aged-care workers will not be sufficient to keep them in the sector. The AACO contends that permanent pay rises and ongoing COVID-19 payments are needed to prevent more workers from leaving the sector.
Aged & Community Services Australia CEO Paul Sadler also said most aged-care staff only work part-time and therefore will not receive the full bonus of $800, as it will be paid on a pro-rata basis.
