NSW COVID deaths hit grim high

NSW has recorded another 25,168 new COVID cases and a record high 46 deaths:

Finally, University of South Australia epidemiologist and biostatistician Professor Adrian Esterman estimates that the effective reproduction rate of COVID-19 has fallen to 0.8% in Victoria and 0.83% in NSW. He says this strongly suggests that the Omicron variant has peaked in both states.

However, Dr Michael Lydeamore of Monash University says it may take another week for experts to know if the Omicron wave has peaked in both states.
