NSW/VIC COVID cases surge higher

NSW has recorded another surge in COVID cases, with another 1742 cases recorded over the past 24 hours; although there were zero deaths:

Victoria’s cases also rose by 1622 with another nine lives also lost:

The next chart plots the spike in daily cases across both jurisdictions:

Active cases have also surged in NSW:

NSW’s Reff has soared to 2.33 – the highest since the pandemic began:

Whereas Victoria’s Reff is also above 1.0 at 1.08:

The good news is that hospitalisations are running well below prior peaks and are yet to spike:

NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard yesterday said modelling by the University of NSW suggests that the state could potentially have 25,000 new cases daily by the end of January; although he stressed that the state’s health system can cope with a surge in cases.

Should be an interesting Christmas.
