Crossbench demands genuine federal anti-corruption watchdog

The federal government’s Assistant Treasurer ­Michael Sukkar has rejected allegations raised in the media over the weekend that he was aware of the misuse of taxpayers’ funds by his office.

According to the allegations, Sukkar knew of a scheme that saw his brother, his best friend and supporters of his faction paid by the taxpayer to undertake work that strengthened the power of his faction.

Sukkar stated that the allegations were from a “discredited source”, and that his office has always provided great service to his constituents and community:
