NSW records 1257 COVID cases, 7 deaths

NSW Health has recorded another 1257 locally acquired COVID cases:

Seven more people have died with COVID:

  • A woman in her 60s;
  • Three people in their 80s; and
  • Three people in their 90s.

There have been 184 COVID-19 related deaths in NSW since 16 June 2021.

There are currently 1,189 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 222 people in intensive care, 94 of whom require ventilation.

The next chart plots NSW’s daily cases:

Hopefully they are peaking.

There are now 14,633 active COVID cases across NSW, which mysteriously halved last week after the government changed the definition:

On a brighter note, the percentage of people aged 16+ in NSW that have received one vaccine dose has risen to 78.5% with 46.2% fully vaccinated.

  1. Bit of a weekly pattern starting to emerge now that growth isn’t as strong. I guess we’ll know it’s going down if we see numbers lower than the weekend numbers in the middle of the week.

Also interesting to see whether or not the eased restrictions make any difference – probably won’t know for another two weeks ( a week after people get together next weekend).

Active COVID-19 cases are defined as people who have tested positive for COVID-19, are in isolation and are being clinically monitored by NSW Health. Cases are considered active for 14 days after their symptom onset date. Cases who have been hospitalised are considered active until they are discharged.

Does that mean if you have tested positive, and only have mild symptoms, you are not an active case?

    That β€˜and’?

    • My understanding is that all cases are clinically monitored – essentially, you test positive and someone from Health pops around with a finger pulse oximeter and you have to log their temperature and O2 sats online throughout the day.

    • The whole counting/reporting thing is a sham (like almost everything in NSW). The “health” minister on Sat pleaded “please, please…”
for the sick to get tested (2 of the Sat deaths tested positive only after they died), rather than keep working.
It’s not in the spirit of NS Welshmen/women to fall behind while others might be earning/enjoying freedom.
They prefer to seed their COVID-Merdejiklian across the eastern seaboard.

  3. It was a great day for the beach on the weekend, the lock downs should be ended now so that everyone can enjoy a swim not just those lucky enough to be live on the coast.

    • salt in the air (an iodine) acts as a natural antiseptic.

Numbers will come down soon, because: 1. too many businesses will close otherwise, 2. JABberwocky numbers are professed as close to the target (as if anyone can really contest that numberwang), 3. all out victory can be declared, Afghan style, and we can move on.
Few months from now jabber-passess and all the pressure can vane as it has in Denmark, UK and other places…
CoviVax (Novavax) is just around the corner…

    • The incentive is for the Govt to hide numbers.

Soon they will tell people not to get tested if they only have mild symptoms. That is what Boris did in the UK to engineer a drop in the case numbers.

They are following the UK playbook so expect the same here.

      • Then they get a grace period of a minimum of several weeks before the deaths bites them on the bum. Even then despite a 200-300% increase in deaths in UK, and considerable excess mortality, Boris still seems to be enjoying the honeymoon period.
