The Queensland Government will continue to push for a COVID-19 quarantine facility near the Wellcamp airport in Toowoomba, west of Brisbane. This is despite a deal with the federal government to establish a dedicated 1000-bed quarantine facility near Brisbane Airport.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk contends that the state would not need to house returned travellers in hotels if it had two stand-alone quarantine facilities:
Ms Palaszczuk said any stand-alone facility in Queensland would take the pressure off hotel quarantine, but two centres in the state would be optimal.
