Victoria’s COVID outbreak climbs to 72

The Victorian Department of Health recorded another 13 new local COVID cases over the past 24 hours:

The new locally-acquired cases are all linked to the current outbreaks.

There are now 72 active COVID infections related to this outbreak:

VIC COVID

72 active local cases.

The good news is that new cases have fallen for two consecutive days:

VIC new covid cases

Past their peak?

The bad news is that Victoria’s lockdown will very likely be extended past tomorrow’s scheduled end date.

I’m tipping a two-week lockdown for Melbourne.

I meant more like the start of a horse race.
A race between Labor and Liberal.
NSW vers Victoria in a race to end lockdown first.

They’re being very careful. I was sent for a test and isolation today even though I wasn’t in the infected seating zone and didn’t use the entry gates mentioned. A bit late, Wednesday-Sunday I was wandering around like a Typhoid Mary.

Kiwi doctor there said he never knew there were so many rugby fans in Melbourne. He also took a chance to have a quick dig at the Wallabies playing style. Meh, couldn’t disagree with him.

There’s plenty being tested. I was at the testing site bang on opening time at seven with maybe 15 cars in front of me and when I left just after eight the gates were closed due to capacity limits.

I (of course) believe that people should keep getting tested. However, the AFR has leaked COVID patient names before. I believe other news outlets in Australia have done similar. This kind of nasty media tactic is a pretty strong disincentive for getting tested.

What I’d be excited about is if they leaked the names and residential addresses of the Wrong Cohort removalists who propagated much of this latest excitement.

Why do they not report how many have been infectious in the community? This is the key figure! If we know that all cases are linked AND have been isolated for all of their infectious period (as are already a 1st, 2nd or 3rd tier contact) for a 5-7 days then we are good to open.

    • They do – go read the data and watch the presser – this is not NSW mate – which is a disaster in every single way shape and form.

Best thing about the Victorian outbreak is they are proving that AGAIN how professional they are and what a complete basket case Gladys and NSW really are – truly ridiculous government.
