While 12 million locked down Australians wish they were denizens of Melbourne today, Australia’s least liveable city, it is high time that we take stock of the benefits of The Idiot. When one considers the upsides of how systematically The Idiot is destroying his own agenda, I think you’ll agree that losing your liberty for a few days is well worth it.
There are three distinct upsides to The Idiot regime. I can’t rank them in any order because they are all so excellent. You’ll have to decide that for yourself.
First, The Idiot and his corporate rentier mates are desperate to restore the mass immigration growth model that COVID-19 has destroyed. They have just released the new Intergenerational Report, a banal, undergraduate document that illustrates how low the Australian Treasury has sunk. The document has one purpose and one purpose only. To rationalise the return of mass immigration lest we all die of whatever malady Treasury boffins make up over the water cooler as they imagine private sector sincures.
The truth is, the real debate about the long future of the budget, the economy and living standards has nothing to do with immigration per se. There are many different ways to grow all three. All the debate is about is who wins and who loses along the way.
As fifteen years of out-of-control immigration has made entirely clear, the winner in the mass immigration model is a narrow group of incubus sectors in banks, education, retail and property development. The losers are EVERYBODY ELSE, in particular, workers. Because mass immigration is never planned for, nor invested into properly, living standards erode as wages are crushed, productivity stalls, public infrastructure and services are crush-loaded and the environment destroyed.
We could instead grow the economy via liberal market reform and productivity growth. Or, we could grow the economy via mercantilist models. Or we could take the MMT route. Or the sustainable route. Onwards and upwards.
Anyways, for the purposes of this post, let’s observe only that The Idiot has made it impossible to restore his own toxic policy agenda of growing the economy via mass immigration for his mates, and bravo to it!
Second, and a related wonderful upside, The Idiot has accelerated our China divorce in a way that a few years ago I could only have dreamt of. Again, this is entirely by accident and in contradiction with its own goals and mates.
Big miners, an Idiot core constituency, are reeling, even if, for the time being, The Idiot has added a geopolitical premium to their product margins. They are so upset, in fact, that they are even willing to entertain high-taxing Labor Party executives at plush dinners.
The Idiot’s endless gaslighting of China has so discombobulated the CCP that its true agenda, to end Australian democracy and create in its place a groveling satrap, has been revealed in the egregious 14 conditions. This has ended any and all hope of a constructive relationship between Australians and China forever.
What an extraordinary achievement by The Idiot.
Third and finally, The Idiot has forced Australian macroeconomic management to contemplate and deploy new ways of doing things that are far more constructive for the broadest long-term living standards than what existed pre-COVID.
The budget surplus obsession is dead. The monetary policy obsession with running higher yields than everywhere else to protect the currency is dead. Both have opened the way for entirely new economic models to be explored, even if nobody but MB is doing so. Eventually, the broader discussion will take on new and better ways of doing things again, in complete contradiction to The Idiot and his mates own agenda.
So, I say, today, as 12 million Aussies pour their first drink at the traditional 10am lockdown beer o’clock, raise a glass to The Idiot. He has destroyed every stupidity that he stands for far more effectively than any political opposition could ever have hoped to achieve.
To The Idiot!
