The likelihood of Victoria exiting its seven day hard lockdown as scheduled on Thursday night is looking unlikely after Victoria’s latest outbreak rose to 46 cases following five new cases today.
Of most concern, one of the new cases is an aged care worker with no known link to other cases in the current outbreak. The unknown source of her infection is of particular concern to authorities as it suggests the virus may be loose in the community. It is also the primary factor that could jeopardise Victoria ending its seven-day lockdown.
It is likely that the aged care worker performed two shifts at Arcare Aged Care Maidstone while infectious, and the facility has been placed into hard lockdown as a precaution.
