For nine months this site has lobbied for quarantine to be shifted out of densely packed city hotels into low density accommodation in the regions.
The logic behind this view is obvious: city hotels are entirely unsuitable for quarantining since their shared ventilation and hallways provides the perfect conditions to spread COVID between guests, to staff and into the wider community.
The empirical evidence supporting this view is also unequivocal: throughout the pandemic we have witnessed multiple hotel quarantine breaches into the community, resulting in numerous hard lockdowns across capital cities, countless billions of dollars in economic damage, and hundreds of lives lost.
