Housing powers construction activity

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released preliminary data on construction work done, which rose over the March quarter on the back of residential building.

As shown in the next table, total construction work rose by 2.4% over the March quarter, driven by a 5.1% rise in residential building. Over the year, total construction activity fell by 1.1%, with residential building (+4.2%) the only segment recording an annual increase:
