Australians go on a vaccine strike

The bumbling of the Morrison Government is something to behold.

Not just because it is so predictably hopeless but because it keeps on delivering the very outcomes it doesn’t want and most Australians do!

We have seen this dynamic play out in foreign affairs where daily Morrison gaffes have radically accelerated the great China divorce.

We have seen it play out in the budget where hapless policy on all fronts has resulted in an MMT project of tens of billions of fiscal spending to cover up Morrison’s failures for women and the elderly.

Now we are seeing it play out in an even grander victory for Australian households as Morrison completely butchers the vaccine rollout. How so?

As we know, Morrison’s corrupt vaccine procurement process led Australia to be overly reliant upon Astra Zeneca, a firm that had never produced vaccines before. Its backup was Novavax, another (tiny) firm that has never produced a vaccine before. Meanwhile, the wildly successful mRNA vaccines that have all but cured Israel and the US were ignored despite being available.

Both of Morrison’s vaccines have turned out to have too many problems to satisfy the public and now the polity has gone on a vaccine strike:

A nurse who administered just one vaccine in the course of an eight-hour shift at one of Victoria’s mass vaccination hubs says she is “furious” at the “snail’s pace” of the vaccine rollout.

The nurse said working in Australia was a drastically different experience to places such as the UK and US, where people were streaming through vaccination centre doors.

“During one eight-hour shift I gave just one vaccine, and I came out afterwards just fuming,” she told Guardian Australia. “It’s slow, it’s frustrating for the nurses, and it’s concerning that Australia seems to take this attitude of, ‘let’s just shut the borders for as long as possible’ while there is vaccine just sitting there.”

The last point is the killer. Another survey has outlined where the hesitancy is coming from:

  • 29% of Australians won’t get a vaccine at all.
  • The top reason is concern about side effects.
  • But fondness for closed borders is also playing a role.

And so, here we are, with Morrison’s cheap foreign labour pipeline cut off and wages set to rise for the first time in a generation to the benefit of households and the despair of every corrupt Morrison business allie.

Honestly, why would we elect Labor when Morrison stupidity delivers better outcomes than it ever could?
