NSW treasurer urges states to do ‘heavy lifting’ on reform

New South Wales Treasurer Dominic Perrottet says it is time for the states to do the ‘heavy lifting’ on economic reform, after having let successive federal governments do it over several decades.

Perrottet notes that many of the areas that the Productivity Commission has stated are in need of most reform are the sole or joint responsibility of state governments, including healthcare, early childhood education, and property stamp duty.

However, he has also called on the federal government to assist the reform process by paying the states incentive payments.
