Property developer Wagner Corporation has proposed the construction of a for-profit quarantine facility near its Wellcamp airport at Toowoomba in Queensland.
The facility would house 1,000 arrivals and 300 staff, and is the subject of discussions with the Queensland and federal governments.
Australian National University infectious diseases physician Professor Peter Collignon says the idea of having a quarantine facility near an airport is good. However, he does not believe it is the sort of thing that should be privatised.
