ABS payroll jobs now level pegging with a year ago

The ABS has released its payroll jobs data for the fortnight ended 30 January 2021, which reveals that the total number of payroll jobs have recovered to be level pegging with a year ago:

Bjorn Jarvis, head of Labour Statistics at the ABS, said: “Payroll jobs continued to follow a seasonal pattern, increasing through January, and were around the same level as last year.”

However, due to seasonality, payroll jobs and wages remained 1.9% and 3.4% below the pre-COVID level respectively:
