Consumer confidence falls after Sydney outbreak

The ANZ-Roy Morgan sentiment survey conducted over the weekend shows a 2% drop in confidence, led by a sharp 5.3% fall in Sydney – its steepest decrease since July:

Confidence also softened in Victoria — down 2.9% — with sentiment also down in Queensland and the Northern Territory.

According to ANZ’s David Plank, “the lockdown of the suburbs around Sydney’s northern beaches and the state border closures have reminded people that material downside risks remain”.
