Older workers hardest hit by pandemic

A new research paper from the ANU’s Centre for Social Research and Methods reveals that workers over the age of 65 have been hardest hit by COVID-19, losing an average of 140.6 hours of work above the national average since early February — the equivalent to a total loss of $5885 in earnings:

Commenting in The Australian, co-author Nicholas Biddle believes the findings suggest that more support needs to be provided to older Australians:

Professor Biddle said the research pointed to the need for additional support for those over 65.
