Businesses burn jobs as JobKeeper tightened

The ABS has released its Weekly Payroll Jobs and Wages in Australia survey, which revealed that payroll jobs are now 4.4% below their pre-COVID (14 March) level, whereas wages are 5.1% lower.

As expected, Victoria has been hardest hit on both measures owing to its 16-week hard lockdown:

Males have been worse impacted than females, especially with respect to wages:
