Leave identity politics out of tax debate

I’m a big fan of The Australia Institute (TAI) and consider them the best Think Tank in the country. That said, I do find it grating that TAI focuses so much on gender wars – playing men and women off against each other – rather than the bigger issues around equality, class and poverty alleviation.

A case in point is TAI’s latest research on bringing forward tax cuts:

New modelling from The Australia Institute has shown that bringing forward the Government’s income tax cuts will disproportionality advantage men over women, despite women being hardest hit in terms of lost employment due to the COVID-19 recession.
