Coalition primes immigration pump

Last year, the Morrison Government launched its Global Talent Independent (GTI) visa program, which promised that visas for 5,000 highly-skilled specialists working “at the top of their field” and earning in excess of $149,000 annually would be fast-tracked for permanent residency each year.

Over the weekend, Acting Immigration Minister, Alan Tudge, told the National Press Club that Australia will target the world’s “super talent” to boost the post-COVID-19 economic recovery by targeting skilled migrants:

Addressing the National Press Club in Canberra on Friday, Mr Tudge said he was “particularly keen” on the government’s global talent visa program, which offers streamlined and priority visa pathways to high-skilled and talented individuals to work and live permanently in Australia.
