The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) stepped up its push for a $30 a week (4%) increase in the minimum wage at yesterday’s minimum wage review hearing:
The ACTU has argued that businesses that have survived the pandemic recession will face less competition and so be better placed to digest a 4 per cent pay rise for workers on award wages… [It] said the economy was experiencing “green shoots” and performing better than expected…
ACTU legal and industrial director Trevor Clarke told the panel the union peak body was of the view that the “toughest times have passed for some but maybe not for all” and urged the panel to be “realistic” about who it could help and who it could not help.
