The NSW government is being urged not to follow Victoria’s lead in banning private inspections of occupied properties, which analysts claim should be “a last resort only”.
Victorian consumer affairs made a bombshell announcement on the eve of Good Friday last week banning private inspections of occupied properties due to health fears.
The ban was quickly reversed after the state’s peak real estate body slammed the change, saying it would prevent homeowners from selling or leasing non-vacant properties.
The restrictions were also criticised as “overkill” and a move that would put thousands out of work at a time when the COVID-19 infection rate appeared to be coming under control.
The whole thing is a bloody disgrace. There is nothing essential in any of it.
As Winter comes on they’ll all catch the virus and pass it on.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has announced a $500 million package to assist landlords and tenants during the coronavirus pandemic.
The package will include $420 million in land tax relief for landlords who provide tenants with rent discounts, while $80 million will go towards rental assistance for Victorians who meet certain criteria.
During a press conference this morning, Mr Andrews said the number of confirmed coronavirus cases had increased by eight since yesterday to 1,299 but the death toll remained at 14.
How will it be policed? Just give it to tenants.
