Net migrant arrivals begin to fall
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) yesterday released visitor arrivals and departures statistics for the month of February, which revealed that the number of permanent and long-term arrivals into Australia remained turbo-charged, but has clearly softened.
In the year to February 2020, there were 826,080 permanent and long-term arrivals into Australia, down 2% from February 2019, and only partly offset by 542,220 permanent and long-term departures:

Subtracting departures from arrivals, there were 283,860 net permanent and long-term arrivals into Australia in the year to February, down 5% on February 2019 but still way above the 43-year average of 157,788:
