Virus to drive one positive workplace change

Brambles CEO Graham Chipchase says the coronavirus outbreak may result in permanent changes to the working environment. He says companies are likely to place more emphasis on having staff work from home, while many businesses are likely to reduce business-related travel and make greater use of teleconferencing. While Chipchase notes that access to high-speed broadband may be a hindrance to widespread take-up of telecommuting, he believes that having staff work from home has benefits in terms of sustainability:

Mr Chipchase said many businesses did not have large-scale provision for staffers to work from home at the moment, with issues including employee access to fast broadband clouding the issue.

But he said the crisis could lead to a more permanent assessment by employers about whether employees could do more work from home and the necessity of extensive staff travel.
