Adjunct Professor Bill Bowtell, a leading infection control expert, has slammed political leaders who have vowed to attend footy matches this weekend, including the Prime Minister and Queensland Premier.

“The NRL season should be cancelled. Anzac Day, there should be a big question about whether those ceremonies should be called off. The Prime Minister can’t know, nobody can know, who in that crowd at the NRL has coronavirus.”

It comes after University of Sydney Professor Robert Booy said the best-case scenario is just 20 per cent of people getting COVID-19 – around 1.5 million in NSW alone.

The worst-case scenario is that half the population comes down with the virus.

Canberra is losing control.
