Unemployment in detail: False comfort before the bust

As summarised earlier, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) today released its labour force report for February, which registered a 26,700 increase in total employment and a fall in the headline unemployment rate (from 5.3% to 5.1%).

In trend terms, the unemployment rate remained steady at 5.1%:

Again, total employment rose by a seasonally adjusted 26,700 to 13,015,100. Full-time jobs rose by 6,700, whereas part-time employment fell by 20,000:
