Melbourne revs up coronavirus grand prix

It’s not a very good idea to import a bunch of Europeans and put them at the centre of a screaming crowd for a week. But hey, the show must go on:

Formula One officials will begin shipping equipment from London to Melbourne on Monday UK time, while teams will start transporting their race cars and gear later this week so they can compete in the Australian Grand Prix, local GP boss Andrew Westacott revealed on Sunday.

Westacott pointed out that the first round of the 2020 World Superbike Championship, run at Phillip Island over the weekend, illustrated that major global events could still take place in Victoria over the next few weeks despite mounting fears over the coronavirus epidemic.
