The Australian Mines & Metals Association’s (AMMA) push for a review of the Fair Work Commission (FWC) has been criticised by the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU). Amongst other things, the AMMA alleged that the allocation of full bench cases tends to favour Labor appointees, a claim that “defies credibility” according to the ACTU. From The AFR:
“This is a shameful and cynical campaign by the big business lobby to attack individual members of the Fair Work Commission in order to further bend the industrial relations system in the favour of their members,” [an ACTU] spokesman said.
The spokesman said the Morrison government had “gone out of its way to politicise the Fair Work Commission by abandoning the practice of appointing members with a diversity of backgrounds”.
