ScoMo turns to creative accounting to rescue Budget

The cash-strapped Morrison Government is mulling whether to lease defence hardware and utilise defence Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) to avert an imminent Budget crunch:

Finance Minister Mathias Cormann has told defence companies to come up with “innovative” financing proposals…

The Australian Financial Review understands proposals companies have put forward include having Defence lease military equipment rather than buy it and offering whole-of-life contracts for projects that include acquisition and sustainment costs, allowing the government to spread out the upfront cost.
