Property listings show a faint pulse

SQM Research has released its Stock on Market report for January, which revealed that property listings rose by 2.2% over the month but were still down 10% year-on-year:

As shown above, there is still an acute shortage of stock in Sydney and Melbourne, where prices are surging.

Nevertheless, SQM believes that a surge of new listings in January, which goes against the seasonal grain, signals a potential resurgence of overall listings over coming months:
