First home buyers can’t drive property prices

Surging home prices in many Australian cities are firing up first-home buyers but are failing to energise investors who are feeling less optimistic, the ME Bank Quarterly Property Sentiment Report shows.

More than half (51 per cent) of first-home buyers polled in the fourth quarter said they intended to buy this year – a jump of 13 percentage points from the second quarter.
