Underlying inflation softens as economy loses steam

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for the June quarter 0f 2019, which registered rising annual headline inflation but falling underlying inflation.
According to the ABS, headline CPI recorded 0.6% growth in the June quarter, rebounding from the March quarter’s 0.0%:

On an annual basis, headline CPI growth rose to 1.6% from the March quarter’s 1.3% growth:
