ScoMo seeks to politicise Australia’s public service

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has revealed plans for a major overhaul of the federal public service, which will include a push for cultural and organisational change. Amongst other things, the reforms will result in increased accountability for senior public servants. The sweeping reforms will coincide with the departure of Martin Parkinson, who will retire as secretary of the Department of Prime Minister & Cabinet in August. From The Australian:

The Prime Minister has told The Australian he plans to move swiftly with a cultural shake-up across the 18 government departments and more than 100 agencies before the final recom­mendations from a 12-month review of the public service.

“We don’t expect the public service to run the government. That’s what we were elected to do,” Mr Morrison said…
