Rental vacancies jump in April as dwelling completions surge

SQM Research has released its rental vacancy series for April, which revealed a large jump in the national vacancy rate after a surge of dwelling completions:

Over the year, increases in vacancies were recorded in Sydney (+1.1%), Melbourne (+0.5%), Canberra (+0.4%) and Darwin (+0.3%), whereas Brisbane (-0.4%), Perth (-0.9%), Adelaide (-0.1%) and Hobart (-0.1%) recorded falls in vacancies.
