Dwelling approvals crash signals more construction pain

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released dwelling approvals data for the month of April. At the national level, the number of dwelling approvals fell by a seasonally adjusted 4.7% to 14,123. The overall fall in approvals was broad-based with the volatile unit & apartment segment (-6.5%) and detached house approvals (-2.6%) both falling.

In the year to April 2019, dwelling approvals crashed by a seasonally-adjusted 24.2%, with house approvals down 20.5% and unit approvals down by 28.8%:
