Unemployed the forgotten people of the election campaign

Australian Council of Social Service CEO Cassandra Goldie has used the start of the federal election campaign to call for an increase in unemployment benefits. She says an above-average number of Newstart recipients live in seven of the 10 most marginal seats, and that an increase in the dole is a “vote-changer” for people who currently receive it or have done so in the past. From The Australian:

Newstart, which is worth less than $270 a week for a single person, has not had a real increase in 25 years…
