Guy pledges cheap TVs in worst ever pre-election pitch

Just when I thought I’d seen it all, Victorian Liberal leader, Matthew Guy, has launched possibly one of the dumbest ever pre-election pitches:

Tens of thousands of Victorian families will be able to swap out their old flat-screen TVs and fridges for new, energy-efficient products at half the price under a Coalition promise to cut household costs.

Opposition Leader Matthew Guy will announce the $40 million scheme, and pledge discounts of as much as 50 per cent off televisions, and 40 per cent off energy-efficient fridges in a bid to help up to 85,000 Victorian households minimise power costs.

“Only a Liberal-Nationals government will cut tax and ease the squeeze on cost-of-living pressures,” Mr Guy told the Herald Sun.

Gerry Harvey must be salivating at the thought of having thousands of extra customers piling into his stores buying imported junk at taxpayers’ expense.

Here’s an idea, Matthew: how about spending those precious taxpayer policies on actual social programs rather than enriching your growth lobby mates?
