Dwelling approvals are falling fast

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released dwelling approvals data for the month of September. At the national level, the number of dwelling approvals rose by a seasonally adjusted 3.3% to 17,081. The overall rise in approvals was driven by the volatile unit & apartment segment (+9.2%), whereas the detached house segment (-2.7%) posted a fall.

In the year to September 2018, dwelling approvals fell by a seasonally-adjusted 14.1%, with house approvals down 7.5% whereas unit approvals fell by 21.9%:
