Coalition pushes more backpacker farm slave labour

Stephen Howes – Director, Development Policy Centre, Crawford School of Public Policy, Australian National University – has lambasted a federal government proposal to make it easier to get more backpackers working on farms, noting that exploitation is already rife. From The Conversation:

Backpackers who have had a visa for one year can already get an extension for a second year if they have worked on a farm for three months. Some 36,000 did it last year
