BnbGuard takes fight to Airbnb

Amid the growing community backlash against short-stay apartment rentals through portals like Airbnb, an interesting service called BnbGuard has emerged to police unauthorised short-term lettings. From Domain:

BnbGuard tracks short-term lets, finds out if anything unauthorised is operating, and then offers advice on shutting them down.

It has found that, even in buildings with bylaws which don’t permit short-term lets, often between five and 10 per cent of unit owners are defying the ban.

In one block at Bondi Beach, 30 per cent of apartments were short-term rentals, Mr Schwarz said, and in popular areas such as Sydney’s eastern suburbs, more than 50 per cent of the lets were being operated by tenants.

In the way of Silicon Valley, AirBnb will probably buy them out and shut them down.
