Michele O’Neil’s election as ACTU president underscores the Construction Forestry Maritime Mining and Energy Union’s tightening grip on the labour movement.

O’Neil is vice-president of the CFMMEU and secretary of its TCF manufacturing division. She was formerly secretary of the Textile Clothing and Footwear Union of Australia before the creation of the super union earlier this year.
